This exhibition showcases artwork that answers the question: What happens when your drawing instructor is also your personal trainer?

In 2010, Namkung created his first ‘Drawing Gym’ by having athletes push their bodies through various exercise stations and creating drawings. After becoming a certified personal trainer in 2011, he worked with the Bayview Hunters Point Y to create ‘Drawing Gym 2’, in which 11 participants reconnect with the creative potential of their physical bodies by using the activity of drawing to record their physical changes over time. Amy reports that Sammy has so many new friends since moving to 5800.  “Every time we go out to the dog park or on walks, there are other neighbors out with their dogs,” says Amy.  “We have only been at 5800 since February 1st, but we have already developed friendships with most of the dog owners in the community and started planning social get-togethers with our new friends!”

Check out stylish students Arielle (on left) and Chante modeling garments they designed and produced themselves for a fashion show at San Francisco State University. Arielle wore her outfit to her prom, AND Visions of La Moda’s Chief Merchandising Instructor Alika Mailly placed her in an internship program at Nordstrom, which led to a staff position. Not bad for a young lady who had never sewn anything prior to starting the program in 2010!
